False Futures release anthemic new single ‘Under The Same Sun’ ahead of UK headline tour

London indie quartet False Futures return with their third single, ‘Under The Same Sun,’ a reflective anthem released just days before their UK headline tour.
Recorded in a modest 9ft x 9ft North London room, ‘Under The Same Sun’ transcends its humble origins with a sound that recalls the angular precision of Television and the lo-fi honesty of Pavement. The DIY production provides an intimate backdrop for frontman Mathew Conner’s Northern-tinged vocals, which turn everyday observations into universal reflections on youth, ambition, and the struggle between conformity and self-expression.
The song began as an instrumental demo Conner wrote during his first summer in London, inspired by The Beach Boys and city life. The lyrics later came to him, transforming it into an anthem that moves from images of schoolchildren to a broader message about independence and holding on to dreams despite pressures to conform.
Conner explains:
“This track is a pat on the back to my younger self; a reminder to do as you please with your time on earth. The good, the bad, the alright, everything that has ever happened has done so, under the same sun, and that’s all the guarantee you’re getting.”
The release of ‘Under The Same Sun’ also marks a milestone for False Futures as they prepare to hit the road for their first UK headline tour. Beginning August 28 in Liverpool and running through September 5 in London, the shows will showcase their growing catalogue, including forthcoming B-side ‘The Fluke and The Excuse,’ a more intimate cut due September 2.
