Ducks Ltd. spark introspection with ‘Train Full of Gasoline’

Toronto’s Ducks Ltd. ignite a profound exploration of life’s fragile elements with their latest single, ‘Train Full of Gasoline.’ This rollicking track serves as a compelling glimpse into the band’s forthcoming album, Harm’s Way, set for release on February 9, 2024.
‘Train Full of Gasoline’ encapsulates the band’s signature blend of frenetic guitar pop while resonating with palpable anxiety simmering beneath the surface. Echoing the internal struggle amid external calmness, the lyrics portray the silent turmoil that accompanies profound emotional upheaval. Drawing inspiration from the Lac Megantic rail disaster of 2013, the song delves into the aftermath of small errors cascading into catastrophic consequences.
Here’s Tom McGreevy discussing the track:
“The jumping-off point for this song was a friend telling me about the Lac Megantic rail disaster in Quebec. A 73-car train full of crude oil was left unattended and rolled down a hill before derailing and exploding in a town. I read about it a bunch, and to my understanding, it was a scenario where a bunch of small errors built up and compounded each other, with the result being a catastrophe out of proportion with any of the individual failures that precipitated it.”
As for their upcoming album, Harm’s Way, McGreevy talks about the project, “They’re songs about struggling. About watching people I care for suffer, and trying to figure out how to be there for them. And about the strain of living in the world when it feels like it’s ready to collapse.”
‘Train Full of Gasoline’ is out today. Harm’s Way is out February 9, 2024.
