Doif’s new single ‘Red Heat Heaven’ embraces chaos with an inventive dystopian soundscape

Doif, the solo project from Anna of the North’s Andreas Lanesjord, has just released ‘Red Heat Heaven’ — a captivating blend of progressive R&B and indie electronic sounds that delves into themes of destruction, toxic relationships, and a craving for chaos.
Signed to Norway’s Propeller Recordings, Doif channels influences from Thundercat, Toro y Moi, and Flying Lotus in ‘Red Heat Heaven,’ creating an unpredictable sonic journey full of twists and turns. Produced in collaboration with Bearson and co-written with Mikhael Paskalev, the track brings a haunting narrative to life. Its accompanying self-directed stop-motion video follows a toxic couple who, mirroring the bravado of powerful world leaders, believe only a dystopian world will bring them peace. Doif’s animated protagonists hold the power to destroy the world, eventually choosing to “press the button” together, leaving a chaotic wasteland where they can be “alone, yet together.”
Describing the track’s meaning, Doif explained:
“The lyrics depict a couple sitting on opposite sides of the planet, each with the power over a large red button. Both are convinced that the other will press it first, but in the end, they decide to press it simultaneously. In a world where everything lies in ruins and the surface of the earth has been levelled, they finally stand face to face—alone, yet together.”
‘Red Heat Heaven’ is out now.
