Boyfriend and Jake Shears bring theatrical pop to biblical rebellion with ‘FIGHT’

Boyfriend has unveiled ‘FIGHT,’ the latest single from her upcoming concept album In The Garden, a bold and imaginative reworking of the biblical story of Adam and Eve. Featuring Scissor Sisters’ Jake Shears, the track is a theatrical and genre-blurring take on the battle between complacency and defiance.
On ‘FIGHT,’ Boyfriend reinvents Adam as an oblivious, carefree figure, while Eve emerges as a force of curiosity and rebellion. The song balances dramatic storytelling with an infectious, synth-driven groove, allowing Shears to fully embrace the role of an unsuspecting Adam confronted by Eve’s growing awareness. Boyfriend’s blend of cabaret-infused pop and sharp lyricism is on full display, making ‘FIGHT’ as much an artistic statement as it is an anthemic showdown.
Boyfriend explains:
“This song really showcases the way I’m re-interpreting these two characters. Adam demonstrates his complacency, Eve demonstrates her defiance.”
Jake Shears says:
“A queer, feminist reimagining of Genesis? Embodying the original man? Sign me up! I loved the idea of putting a new, rambunctious spin on the Adam character. Playing Adam has been such a blast because he’s this carefree, blissfully unaware hunk who’s never had to question anything—until Eve starts shaking things up. It’s cheeky, it’s thought-provoking, and it’s got that perfect mix of theater and pop.”
In The Garden arrives May 9 via Big Freedia’s Queen Diva Music and boasts an impressive roster of collaborators, including Billy Porter, Peaches, and Big Freedia herself. The album serves as both a feminist critique and a vibrant, theatrical reinterpretation of a foundational narrative, positioning Eve as a symbol of intellectual curiosity and autonomy.
‘Fight’ is out now.
