The Toronto-based sextet is set to release their upcoming album Requiem for a Planet on May 3rd, 2024.

The lead single, ‘A.W.I.L’ (Always in Love), bursts forth with joyous energy, urging humanity to come together and fight against isolation. The accompanying video, directed by Jess Price, enhances the urgency of the song’s message. Vocalist Anna Mērnieks-Duffield describes it as a wake-up call to recognize our shared humanity and work towards justice and love for each other.

Lead vocalist/songwriter Anna Mērnieks-Duffield explains:

“‘A.W.I.L’ is a wake-up call that we as humans are programmed for life—we’re on the same side, and if we could just sit through the discomfort of our differences long enough to see the deep root of love there, the true humanity, we could work together towards justice for each other, and for every being.”

Recorded by Kevin S. McMahon at the historic Marcata Recording in New Paltz, NY, Requiem for a Planet promises a unique sonic experience. The album, described as ‘a hike along Grief Mountain with scenic lookouts,’ features hypnotic vibraphone, glistening guitars, and ghostly violin strings, creating an intimate connection between the music and the listener.

Mērnieks-Duffield details the album:

Requiem is about grieving the loss of the ‘planet’ we were promised as kids. One where it seemed like we were collectively working to create a more positive future for all, and being faced with the reality that this is simply not true. It’s also about acceptance of this fact, and finding a way to dream up and realize better futures.”

‘A.W.I.L’ is out now. Requiem for a Planet is scheduled for release on May 2rd, 2024.
