Chicago indie-rock outfit Ax and The Hatchetmen delivers a heartfelt, hook-filled anthem with their latest single, ‘Hotel Room,’ out now via Arista Records.

Capturing the bittersweet sting of long-distance love, ‘Hotel Room’ sees the band layering jangly guitars, upbeat drumming, and warm, brassy horns beneath a soaring, yearning chorus. The track builds on the momentum of recent singles like ‘Blurry Lights‘ and ‘Stay // Honestly,’ continuing the band’s winning streak of anthems produced by Jake Sinclair. While the lyrics wrestle with emotional distance, the band’s buoyant instrumentation transforms the melancholy into something uplifting and infectious.

Hatchetmen singer Axel Ellis explains:

“‘Hotel Room’ is about the hardest reality of being fortunate enough to travel for a living: always having someone to miss. It’s about wishing you could call that person and lay your thoughts on the table, but what’s the point if you won’t be around anytime soon? It’s about wanting to see the one who makes your heart jump, but not knowing when or where that might happen. It’s about looking out the window at an array of different sceneries, with one constant thought stuck on your mind. It’s about missing you.”

‘Hotel Room’ arrives alongside a lyric video and ahead of the band’s upcoming tour dates, including a summer run supporting Fitz and The Tantrums. The band will also headline select shows, building on the momentum from this year’s Way Too Late Tour and their 2024 Love Songs EP.
