August Ponthier share ‘I’m Crying, Are You?’ ahead of debut album
August Ponthier release their new single ‘I’m Crying, Are You?’ on January 9, 2026, offering the latest preview of their upcoming debut album Everywhere Isn’t Texas, out February 13. The Texas-born, Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter continues to build momentum with the new release following earlier singles ‘Handsome,’ ‘Betty,’ and ‘Karaoke Queen.’
‘I’m Crying, Are You?’ centers on emotional imbalance after a breakup, capturing the disconnect between someone who moves on easily and someone left carrying the weight of the past. The track pairs trauma-focused lyrics with an energetic, pop-forward melody, blending influences of pop, rock, folk, and country that define Ponthier’s sound. The production showcases a more dynamic vocal delivery, reflecting growth developed while touring with artists such as The Japanese House, Bleachers, and Maren Morris. The result is a single that balances catharsis and movement, leaning into rhythm without softening its emotional core.
As Ponthier explains:
“It’s about the injustice of someone absolutely f**king you up and then happily moving on. Sure, this could be an elevated song from a birds’-eye-view about how the good guy always wins, but isn’t it more fun to complain and dance?”
‘I’m Crying, Are You?’ is out now and available to stream on all major platforms.
