Attawalpa has unveiled his latest single ‘You Are You,’ taken from his newly released second album Experience. The track is accompanied by a hand-drawn animated video directed by Esme Blegvad and follows the recent single ‘True Love Trajectory.’

‘You Are You’ continues Attawalpa’s vibrant and reflective sonic exploration, offering a message of quiet perseverance and connection. Initially inspired by Felber’s hairless dog, Ingrid, the song evolves into a broader meditation on humanity. The layered instrumentation and warm tone sit neatly within the album’s baroque pop and psych-tinged aesthetic.

“I originally wrote this song about my hairless dog Ingrid. I always walk around the house lovingly saying, ‘what are you?’, ‘who are you?’. Just as surprised every time. Like most songs, the original idea stretches and becomes wider. It ended up being a song about humanity as a whole. A positive whisper to carry on. Ingrid features in the Esme Blegvad hand-drawn animated video.”

‘You Are You’ sits at the heart of Experience, an album recorded live with Attawalpa’s seven-piece ensemble. Featuring musicians like percussionist Maurizio Ravalico (Jamiroquai) and viola player, Freya Hicks, the album builds on the dreamy textures of Attawalpa’s 2022 debut Presence, adding a sharper groove and expansive palette.

Attawalpa is set to perform live at The Lexington in London on July 25. Fans will have the chance to experience Experience in its full-band form.
