Asher White explodes boundaries on ‘Beers with my name on them’

Asher White continues her creative streak with the release of ‘Beers with my name on them,’ the lead single from her forthcoming album 8 Tips for Full Catastrophe Living, due September 12 via Joyful Noise Recordings.
The New York City–by–Rhode Island multi-instrumentalist, writer, and visual artist has long been known for pushing musical boundaries, but her newest track reaches further into experimental extremes. Beginning as a diaristic vignette, ‘Beers with my name on them’ opens with guitar-driven power pop before collapsing into industrial techno. The tonal shift mirrors a narrative that begins in a domestic kitchen and veers into Providence’s rave scene—an abrupt transition that’s both physical and emotional, reflecting White’s deftness in assembling wildly varied sonic textures.
On the single, White shares:
“On hedonism and being a party girl and drinking every night. Hence the extended breakbeat section which was inspired by / an attempted impression of a ‘whippets-and-twin-peaks’ themed birthday party i went to. Also an excuse to deploy the sad poetic homonym ‘alone’ / ‘a loan’ and refit the phrase ’empire today’ into a new and unexpected form as an experiment in recontextualizing familiar sequences of words.”
Asher White will join Deerhoof on tour beginning June 25 in Boston, with additional dates across the Northeast. Full details are available via her official channels.
‘Beers with my name on them’ is out now on your favorite DSP.
