Amanda Cy drops emotional new single ‘Yangtze’ from upcoming EP Waterworks

Stockholm-based artist and producer Amanda Cy delivers an emotional punch with her latest single, ‘Yangtze,’ taken from her upcoming EP Waterworks set to release on May 23rd.
Following her recent tour dates with Griff, Amanda Cy captures the raw vulnerability of shedding tears in the track, which seamlessly blends Scandinavian melancholy with pulsating 90s-inspired instrumentation. ‘Yangtze’ is a testament to the power of letting go and allowing oneself to feel deeply. In collaborating with producer and songwriter Madelene Eliasson, Amanda infuses the song with heartfelt sincerity and authenticity, creating a pop anthem reminiscent of MUNA’s signature sound.
Reflecting on the inspiration behind ‘Yangtze,’ Amanda shares:
“‘Yangtze’ is an ode to crying and how good it can feel. It’s about accepting that you’re an emotional being and that sometimes it’s just better to cry it out instead of stoically trying to keep things bottled up.
“I love crying and the way it can release so much tension – but it’s so easy to associate it with attention-seeking, weakness, shame, and all these negative things. Whether alone, in public, or on someone’s shoulder – if you want to cry – please cry.”
Her upcoming Waterworks EP represents a significant milestone in Amanda’s musical journey, symbolizing her growth as an artist and songwriter. Teaming up with production duo Teddy Failure, Amanda explores themes of grief, self-discovery, and resilience throughout the project. From the introspective ‘Know Nothing’ to the emotional centerpiece ‘A Mother’s Touch,” Amanda invites listeners on a deeply personal and introspective journey.
‘Yangtze,’ is available now. Her upcoming EP Waterworks is set to release on May 23rd.
