Alice Costelloe finds quiet resolve on new single ‘Anywhere Else’
London singer-songwriter Alice Costelloe releases her new single ‘Anywhere Else’ today, December 15, 2025, via Moshi Moshi Records. The track offers the latest glimpse of her forthcoming debut album Move On With The Year, due out on February 6, 2026.
‘Anywhere Else’ marks the first song Costelloe wrote for the album, taking shape shortly after she returned from recording her 2024 EP When It’s The Time with producer Mike Lindsay. Back in her home setup, she introduced a Mellotron and began developing the smudged synth pulses, hushed recorder lines, and loose, hand-played textures that became central to the record’s sound. The song opens with the line, “Please don’t say it’s all for me / I would rather be anywhere else,” establishing the emotional tone that runs throughout the album. With lilting melodies and brooding atmospherics, the track explores the tension between obligation and escape, leaning into instinctive songwriting over polish.
On the release of the single, Costelloe said:
“This song felt so easy and natural. All the recorder melodies were the first things I played, and it really felt like I was just writing whatever came to me without worrying about what was cool or what other people were doing. I decided I wanted the whole record to feel like that – to just take the path of least resistance at every turn, in sound and in subject.”
Produced by Mike Lindsay in his Margate studio, Move On With The Year is Costelloe’s debut solo album and follows her work as a member of Big Deal and her solo EP releases. The album expands her sound beyond indie-rock roots into a more fragile, art-pop space shaped by Mellotron drones, flutes, warped synths, and piano. Written as summer turned to autumn, the record traces grief, growth, and emotional rebuilding with restraint and clarity.
Costelloe will tour in support of the album across the UK in January, February, and March 2026, including multiple London dates, two of which are already sold out. ‘Anywhere Else’ is available now on all streaming platforms.
