Fusing shoegaze textures, 90s breakbeats, and vaporwave nostalgia into a genre they’ve coined “hypergaze,” Ether’ builds on the band’s sound while exploring themes of euphoria and detachment.

‘Ether’ showcases an intricate soundscape led by baggy breakbeats, acid-tinged basslines, and layered, reverb-heavy guitars. The track is elevated by a haunting vocal performance from Swedish artist Eir, whose ethereal voice underscores the bittersweet struggle between bliss and disconnection.

Built on an analog 303 synth loop—a nod to 90s acid house and rave culture—the song evolved through numerous iterations before finding its final form. According to the duo, Jakob Birch and Casper Munns, “‘Ether’ was built from a loop on an analogue 303 synth known from 90’s acid house/rave culture. We gradually kept on adding, re-writing, or removing different layers and sections throughout multiple iterations of the song. After we recorded vocals with Sanna (Eir), it became more clear to us that the song was asking us to embrace a more carefree or ‘over the top’ vibe that we also like from hyperpop, while still maintaining our love for loud and layered guitars.”

‘Ether’ is out now.
