Little Barrie release ‘It Isn’t Soul,’ their new single out now from their upcoming album Gravity Freeze, due May 22 on Easy Eye Sound.

Built around a fuzzy, riff-driven core, ‘It Isn’t Soul’ leans into a darker groove inspired by The Budos Band, blending psychedelia with elements of funk and soul. The track balances a steady rhythmic pulse with atmospheric textures, reflecting a sense of detachment and unease while maintaining a melodic throughline. As the second preview of the record, it follows ‘More Bad Miles Of Road’ and continues to define the album’s tonal direction, pairing hypnotic instrumentation with reflective themes.

Cadogan explains:

“Musically ‘It Isn’t Soul’ is inspired by The Budos Band. I love the dark menace in their music and how it still grooves. I wanted to try and write a song around a riff that I could have imagined them playing. It’s just a simple song about an increased sense of soullessness from different angles and the sense of feeling detached. Still having a fondness for your surroundings but feeling sadness as it loses some of the things and people you grew up with and loved. Change isn’t always geared to suit us, but good things can still be done.”

We’ve covered Little Barrie previously: ‘Spektator‘ and ‘Zero Sun‘ featuring Malcolm Catto.

‘It Isn’t Soul’ is available now on all streaming platforms.
