deadmau5 and Stevie Appleton explore atmosphere and minimalism on new single ‘Science’
deadmau5 releases his new single ‘Science’ featuring Stevie Appleton on February 20 via mau5trap. The vocal-driven release follows last year’s instrumental track “Ameonna” and marks deadmau5’s first new music of 2026.
‘Science’ pairs deadmau5’s detailed electronic production with Appleton’s distinctive tone and melodic writing. Built around a stripped-back lyrical structure, the track balances atmosphere with precision, aligning with the producer’s history of vocal collaborations such as ‘The Veldt,’ ‘Raise Your Weapon,’ ‘Bridged By A Lightwave,’ and the Kx5 single ‘I Remember.’ The full 9.30m length version expands the arrangement into a cinematic progression, allowing the production to evolve gradually around Appleton’s restrained vocal lines.
deadmau5 shares:
“Steve sent the vocal through, thought it was neat, so I made a track with it.”
Stevie Appleton adds:
“I found there ended up being a nice simplicity in ‘Science.’ There was a lot more in the song before I cut it down to just four lines, each of which I feel like carry a certain feeling. Is it a dark energy, a loving one? It’s a bit of a mystery and I wanted to keep it that way. What deadmau5 has done with the production and the continuation of the songwriting is incredible. I’ve worked with a lot of big DJ/producers and gotten versions back of songs I’ve started on a piano, but this one was a different game. It should be a marker for the quality young producers are trying to achieve. “I’m excited for the world to hear what we’ve made, especially the full 9.30m length version, it takes you on a ride like a piece of cinema.”
‘Science’ is now available via mau5trap and can be streamed on all platforms.
We’ve covered deadmau5 previously: ‘Raise Your Weapon (Deathpixie’s Requiem),’ ‘Endless featuring Ed Graves,’ ‘Jupiter,’ ‘Quezacotl,’ ‘Not Exactly – Rebuke remix,’
