Thistle Sifter releases their new single ‘Ghost Acres’ today, January 9, 2026, marking the latest release from the cinematic post-rock project led by English musician Pete Barnes, based in Utrecht, the Netherlands. The instrumental track arrives ahead of the upcoming album Forever The Optimist, due February 6, 2026, via FREIA Music.

‘Ghost Acres’ is the second single taken from Forever The Optimist and continues Thistle Sifter’s immersive approach to instrumental post-rock. Built around expansive soundscapes, atmospheric synths, and slow-burning crescendos, the track explores environmental themes inspired by George Monbiot’s book Regenesis. The title references the concept of “ghost acres,” describing the unseen land required to sustain modern consumption in Western societies. The accompanying music video, created by Dutch visual artist Nici Metselaar, reinforces this concept with confronting imagery that highlights the environmental impact of large-scale agriculture and climate degradation.

‘Ghost Acres’ is out now and available to stream on all major platforms.
