PREMIERE: Wormy unveils ‘Cocaine Bear’ single and video ahead of Shark River LP
Wormy, the moniker of New York City singer-songwriter Noah Rauchwerk, has dropped his single and video ‘Cocaine Bear’ via Rose Garden, the third preview from his upcoming album Shark River, due out January 16th.
‘Cocaine Bear’ arrives as a fuzzed-out, slow-building ballad that leans into emotional restraint and atmosphere. Built on a gradual rise, the track directly addresses themes of fear, avoidance, and anxiety in the face of mortality, highlighting the solitude and reflection that surface during moments off the road. Understated dynamics and textured distortion mirror the song’s internal emotional struggles. While the title nods to the 2023 film, the song emphasises the introspective and vulnerable moments rather than spectacle. The accompanying video draws inspiration from The Blair Witch Project, underlining the song’s unease through its stark, immersive visuals.
Rauchwerk says:
“This is a song about running away from your feelings by going to the movies and watching two back to back. It’s about being scared of dying. Perfect days end just as quickly as horrible ones and they never come back. Maybe when it cuts to black it’s better if you’re not expecting it and dreading it.”
The forthcoming album Shark River expands on these ideas across ten tracks, exploring loneliness, heartbreak, and the fragile comfort of escapism while moving constantly between places. The record features production and backing vocals from Conti and Samia, shaping a subdued indie-folk sound that supports Rauchwerk’s emotionally direct vocal delivery. Shark River is scheduled for release on January 16th, 2026 via Rose Garden.
‘Cocaine Bear’ is available December 25th on all streaming platforms.
