Peaer return with expansive new single ‘Bad News’
Peaer share their new single ‘Bad News’ today, marking the latest release from the New York–based project led by Peter Katz, out now ahead of the upcoming album doppelgänger, due January 16 via Danger Collective.
‘Bad News’ is the second preview of doppelgänger, Peaer’s first full-length release in nearly six years. The album’s lead single, ‘Button’, leaned into restraint and tension. In contrast, ‘Bad News’ expands the band’s sound with shifting textures, restless momentum, melodic power pop, blown-out guitar passages, and a jagged, krautrock-inspired rhythm. This creates a haunting, dynamic atmosphere that shows the band’s evolving songwriting and arrangement.
Speaking about the track, Katz says:
“This song started off as three separate ideas. The Pinback-esque bassline, the chord progression that became the chorus, and the outro. Thom, Jeremy and I worked together to construct this song out of those ideas and I’m really happy with how it turned out. I really wanted to include an Omar Rodriguez-Lopez style guitar solo, too. I’m really happy with how we’ve incorporated our influences on this song especially, while also feeling like it’s the ‘most Peaer’ song to date.”
‘Bad News’ is available now to stream on all platforms.
