Devin Shaffer previews Patience with new single ‘Anyone’
Brooklyn-via-Chicago singer-songwriter Devin Shaffer has released her new single ‘Anyone,’ the final preview from her forthcoming second album and studio debut, Patience, out November 7 via American Dreams.
‘Anyone’ offers a luminous counterpoint to the more somber mood of Shaffer’s earlier singles. Written early in the album’s process during a period of unguarded optimism, the song unfolds as a warm, delicate ode to self-assurance. The track features a graceful and quietly virtuosic piano contribution from California-based artist Lucy Liyou, whose performance lends “a sort of ecstatic levity to the melody that is so perfect,” according to Shaffer.
Speaking about the song, Shaffer shares:
“Most of my music reflects indecision, fantasy, conflict, obsession with elsewhere…I really live in that limbo. It can be paralyzing. ‘Anyone’ is like the antithesis of all that. It’s me saying, I know exactly what I want this time and nobody can stop me. This song is so joyous and hopeful, it actually breaks my heart to listen to, because nothing is permanent. It makes me think about the way the sky turns sort of yellow and glows really beautifully right before a storm.”
‘Anyone’ is available now on all streaming platforms. Shaffer’s full album Patience arrives November 7 via American Dreams.
