Chinese American Bear release ‘Forever Lover (永远的爱人)’ inspired by their 17-year love story
Seattle-based duo Chinese American Bear, composed of married musicians Anne Tong and Bryce Barsten, has released their new single ‘Forever Lover (永远的爱人),’ out now. Written, produced, and mixed by the pair in their home studio, the song arrives as their first new release since their 2023 sophomore album Wah!!! on Moshi Moshi Records. The track is accompanied by a video directed by Eleanor Petry and precedes upcoming performances in Brooklyn, Seattle, and Miami.
‘Forever Lover (永远的爱人)’ is described as an epic love song that radiates both intimacy and grandeur. Blending influences from Chinese mando-pop and Western indie pop, the track pairs lush, shimmering textures with heartfelt emotion. The song captures a deep, enduring love—one that has grown and evolved throughout the duo’s 17-year relationship, from high school sweethearts to creative partners.
Anne says of the track:
“This song is one of the more romantic love songs we’ve written. It’s inspired by our own love story. Bryce and I first met in high school, we dated for ten years before getting married in 2018. We’ve now officially been together for over half of our lives. The style of the song is an ode to my lifelong obsession with pop music. I kept asking Bryce to write a song that’s more directly pop, and he finally did! It was really fun to work on, and a challenge for him to produce/mix something in this vein.”
