Big Special release ‘Plaintive Native’ and extend tour with U.S. dates

Walsall duo Big Special have released their new single ‘Plaintive Native’ today (October 15, 2025) via SO Recordings. Produced amid the band’s extensive European tour, the track arrives following their surprise second album NATIONAL AVERAGE and precedes their North American return this December. Alongside previously announced support dates with Public Service Broadcasting, Big Special have added headlining shows in Chicago and Boston.
‘Plaintive Native’ is a thunderous and emotionally charged track that channels the unrest and uncertainty of modern life. Built on the duo’s signature mix of raw poetry and gritty instrumentation, the song captures a growing sense of political confusion and moral fatigue. Its title and tone reflect both personal and collective disillusionment, resonating with the larger social themes that have defined Big ‘Special’s catalog since their debut.
“The song is about political turmoil clouding the minds of the nation that turns moral conviction into apathy. It’s about worry for the future and a lack of hope. It’s the confusion of trying to be good when everything is so bad and not knowing how to navigate and trust all the wagging fingers and waving fists.”
The duo will tour Europe through November before heading to North America, with stops in Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, New York, and Toronto.
‘Plaintive Native’ is available now on all streaming platforms via SO Recordings.
