Cardiff’s Why Horses? have released their debut EP Yeah, Hi? via BWGiBWGAN Records, accompanied by the introspective new single ‘Conversation.’ The release comes ahead of the band’s anticipated slot at Sŵn Festival next week, marking an exciting milestone in their fast-rising journey through the UK’s underground scene.

‘Conversation’ showcases a more reflective side of Why Horses?, swapping the psychobilly chaos of previous single ‘I’ve Got a Fever’ for melancholic, lo-fi indie textures. The song cascades through jangling guitars and understated rhythms, carrying an almost Strokes-like sensibility as frontman Gabriel Lester explores the frustrations and vulnerabilities tied to communication and speech. It’s a deeply personal track that finds beauty in awkwardness and meaning in imperfection.

Lester explains:

“This song explores how sometimes conversation, particularly small talk, can achieve nothing, and be unfruitful, inspired by my struggle with stammering. Because of my stammer I often end up saying words or phrases that weren’t my first choice, because I was unable to say the original word or phrase I had intended to say. This can often make conversation feel awkward or defeating for me.”

Fans can catch Why Horses? on tour throughout the UK this fall, including appearances at Cardiff’s Sŵn Festival (October 16–18), St. David’s Boia Festival (October 24–26), and London’s Strongroom Bar (October 31), with additional dates in Southampton, Swansea, Bristol, and more.

Yeah, Hi? by Why Horses? is out now via BWGiBWGAN Records.
