Pickle Darling shares new single ‘Congratulations Champion’ ahead of Bots release
Pickle Darling has released their final single ‘Congratulations Champion’ before the arrival of their highly anticipated new album Bots, due out Friday, September 5 on Father/Daughter Records.
The single unfolds like a mosaic, pieced together from one-liners Lukas Mayo collected in their phone notes. The standout lyric, “You know I’m gonna love you still / Like black mold loves the windowsill,” perfectly captures the album’s blend of devotion, decay, and unexpected sweetness. Musically, it locks into place with a melody that feels both fragile and inevitable, a timestamp of the moment it was born.
On the track, Mayo shares:
“This one collects a bunch of stand alone lines I’ve had on my phone. Some songs function purely as a timestamp for me, it has so many things in it that point to a specific moment in 2022. I was listening to a lot of R.E.M., at the time, I love melodies that kind of just ‘slot’ into place.”
To celebrate the upcoming album release, Pickle Darling will play a short run of in-store performances in New Zealand, including shows in Wellington, Auckland, and their hometown of Christchurch.
