Initially rooted in pop-punk energy, QWAM’s girls aren’t afraid of blood sees the Brooklyn outfit trading sugar-rush hooks for heavier, grunge-inflected songwriting steeped in fear, self-doubt, and personal reckoning.

At the heart of the record is lead vocalist Felicia Lobo, who steers the band’s creative direction with raw, intimate songwriting. Her lyrics dig deep into themes of identity, discomfort, and emotional survival. The album’s lead singles—’Friend$$,’ ‘About You,’ and ‘Something Bad’—build a compelling arc that balances melody with grit. The full band—Lobo, Matt Keim (guitar), Eddie Kuspiel (bass), new drummer Anthony Spinnato, and newly added guitarist Dave Lucas—recorded the album at Drop of Sun Studios in Asheville, NC with producer Alex Farrar (MJ Lenderman, Wednesday), a fitting choice given the record’s mix of unfiltered honesty and sonic intensity.
From the searing opener ‘Something Bad’ to the closer ‘Teeth,’ QWAM sound fearless, peeling back layers of distortion and discomfort to confront the messy edges of being alive.
girls aren’t afraid of blood is a powerful statement of artistic maturity—grungier, more introspective, and more emotionally resonant than anything the band has released before.
