Bay Area indie folk duo Dog Eyes have released their final single ahead of their upcoming EP, blue bird rain cloud, due out this Friday, July 25th, on Grand Jury.

Titled ‘Bluebird,’ the new single sees Hailey Firstman and Davis Leach expanding their sonic palette. Unlike the spare arrangements of previous tracks ‘i remain’ and ‘nano,’ this half-title track features layered instrumentation, including clarinet and piano, creating a lush backdrop for a wordless chorus of “do do do’s.” The result is a song that simultaneously carries a sense of resignation and hope, mirroring the EP’s thematic tension between joy and sorrow.

Leach says of the track:

“‘Bluebird’ feels like the foundation of our songwriting. There’s a playful, almost childlike attitude to the lyrics that comes out when we write together. Simple lyrics like ‘gray rain cloud over ur head, blue birds sing over mine’ contrast with a cinematic instrumental track with heavy piano chords and clarinets playing a new melody below the lyrics.”

The new EP, out July 25 via Grand Jury, marks Dog Eyes’ second release on Grand Jury following last year’s holy friend.
