Umarells embrace spiky intensity on ‘Moment Before We Met’

Manchester indie outfit Umarells return with a brooding new single, ‘Moment Before We Met.’ Marking their first new music of 2025, the track sheds the neo-psych sparkle of their earlier work in favor of something darker, spikier, and more emotionally raw.
A departure from the dreamy textures of their debut EP One More Day, ‘Moment Before We Met’ plunges into gothic, fuzz-laced indie-rock territory. Guitars snarl and shimmer beneath shadowy vocal harmonies, drawing on influences like Mitski, Feeble Little Horse, and Momma. The result is a song that feels both sharp and unsteady, like a warning whispered through storm clouds.
Offering insight into the new track, guitarist Ryan Marsden says:
“It’s about the gap between everything; the not knowing, the stuff that eats you up. The curse of being a sensitive soul. The fogs. The bad omen or the foreshadowing that nature delivers. It’s feeling misunderstood but also misunderstanding.”
With upcoming dates in Manchester and Sheffield this July, followed by debut European shows in Italy this October, ‘Moment Before We Met’ finds Umarells doubling down on their identity while forging a darker, more textured sound.
