Object 1 balances the beauty and brutality in Flooding’s sound

Flooding, the Lawrence, Kansas-based trio, returns with Object 1, a riveting new release that fuses delicate melodies with intense sonic weight. Out July 11, the band’s third album continues to explore the emotional extremes that have become their calling card—floating somewhere between slowcore serenity and post-hardcore abrasion.

Produced by: Flooding

Fronted by guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter Rose Brown, Flooding is completed by bassist Cole Billings and drummer Zach Cunningham. While the band has always embraced contrast, Object 1 leans further into that duality, infusing their dissonant, drone-heavy compositions with pop-forward songwriting and haunting vocal melodies. From the ethereal opener ‘your silence is my favorite song’ to the crushing closer ‘object 1,’ the EP is a study in tension, release, and catharsis.

Following their acclaimed 2023 release Silouette Machine, Object 1 shows a band sharpening its focus without losing its edge. Flooding leans into melody without softening its message, and the result is a record that feels as emotionally confrontational as it is sonically immersive.
