Das Koolies deliver new single ‘Som Bom Magnífico’ / Announce new album
Das Koolies return with their new single ‘Som Bom Magnífico,’ a vibrant fusion of euphoric electronica and soulful storytelling, marking the first glimpse of their upcoming album Pando, set for release on May 9, 2025, via Strangetown Records in association with Amplify Music.
‘Som Bom Magnífico’ sees the Welsh quartet—Huw Bunford, Cian Ciarán, Daf Ieuan, and Guto Pryce—effortlessly blend slick, gospel-infused electronica with a reflective tale inspired by their rock-and-roll past. The track’s pulsing beats and smooth melodies draw on decades of musical exploration as members of Super Furry Animals while pushing their sonic boundaries further.
Vocalist and drummer Daf Ieuan explains:
“Hindsight and rose-tinted glasses. It’s a song about a time when it was normal to order a veggie breakfast in hotels as a concession to a healthier lifestyle, then following up by requesting to see the ‘Breakfast Wine Menu.’ As Lou Reed sang: ‘Wine in the morning!’ Everyone should live like that for a while. Could be for a couple of days or a couple of decades. We’ve never laughed so much, but never again.”
With ‘Som Bom Magnífico,’ Das Koolies continue to redefine their creative identity, bridging their psych-folk-rock roots with cutting-edge electronic production. The single serves as a promising preview of Pando, a record that promises to deliver more of the band’s signature genre-bending magic.
