Koyal shares a heartfelt ode to friendship with new single ‘Bummer Song’

LA-via-Atlanta indie pop-rock trio Koyal has released their warm and playful new single, ‘Bummer Song,’ offering fans a taste of their upcoming sophomore album Breathe In. Breathe Out, due out February 28.
‘Bummer Song’ takes a cozy, acoustic approach, departing from Koyal’s more energetic releases. Written by drummer Henry Wallace, the song captures the importance of leaning on friends during life’s everyday frustrations, reflecting the strong bond between the trio. Wallace’s inspiration came from a personal disappointment, and he used the song to uplift his bandmates. With lyrics likening life’s small bummers to something as trivial as wet socks, the track encourages listeners to embrace humor when things go wrong.
As Wallace explains:
“You know that cold, sinking feeling when you step into a puddle in your kitchen and your socks get wet? Either your day is ruined or you laugh it off and put on a new pair of socks — and that’s the ethos of ‘bummer song’.”
The accompanying music video, directed by William Rowan, visually captures the song’s playful energy, following the bandmates as they take on life’s small inconveniences together.
