A stalwart of the lofi rock scene, Karl Blau has released his new single ‘Who,’ a contemplative track from his forthcoming album Vultures of Love, due out on October 18 via Otherly Love.

‘Who’ is a journey through life’s uncertainties, with lyrics that ponder the mysteries of what comes after death. The track begins with a solitary, introspective intro that gradually gives way to a brighter, uplifting bridge, where Blau sings, “Who calls so late at night? / Woke Granny now she’s uptight / Don’t rock the boat so rough / You know these wings are made from the waxy stuff.” The song’s evolving mood is mirrored by its musical progression, culminating in a saxophone solo that perfectly encapsulates the ups and downs of philosophical contemplation.

Discussing the track, Karl Blau shared:

“Dave Flaherty comes down from Brooklyn for the day to play drums for a handful of ideas what would become the backbone tracks of Vultures of Love. ‘Who’ came together during this session at the recording studio tucked in the corner of a furniture warehouse we call Andy’s Room. It was the first thing we made together. I was still testing the machine and somehow didn’t string it up right so that the ghost drums you hear in the intro especially are Chris Covatta testing the drums just before Dave arrived. When we listened back the first time it jarred me.”

‘Who’ is out now.
