Mike Lindsay releases first new single of 2024, ‘lie down’ featuring Anna B Savage
Mercury Prize-winning producer and creative force behind Tunng and LUMP, Mike Lindsay, releases the lead single from his upcoming debut solo album supershapes volume 1, out 14th June via Moshi Moshi Records.
lie down,’ the opening track from Mike Lindsay’s debut solo album, sets the tone for supershapes volume 1. Featuring ethereal vocals by Anna B Savage, the song delves into the concept of reverse FOMO, a yearning for domestic simplicity amid the chaos of a bustling life. Lindsay’s intricate instrumental arrangements, including bendy bass, wobble chords, and wonk sax, create a dreamscape where the listener is caught in a never-ending cycle of sevens, a hypnotic and immersive experience. The recorded snippets from Lindsay’s family add a personal touch, making ‘lie down’ a captivating blend of intimate storytelling and rich instrumentation.
“The song itself is loosely based on reverse FOMO, when you’re out every night but yearning for domestic bliss, with all the menial tasks like taking out the rubbish and watching guilty pleasure telly. There is an unsettling, never-ending cycle of sevens on this track, you never quite get to relax. Though you’re woozy from the bendy bass, wobble chords, and lullaby woodwind, you’re snapped out it by fast scattered table percussion and wonk sax. The words Lie down Lie down Lie down… Are all recorded on my phone from members of my entire family at Christmas.”
‘lie down’ is out now. supershapes volume 1, is set for release on 14th June via Moshi Moshi Records.
