There’s so much good music out in the ether that sometimes it’s difficult to parse through all of it. Every week The Daily Music Report will do the hard work for you and highlight the best releases available on streaming services.

This week we’re highlighting new music from Ashnikko, The Armed, and SPELLLING.

Ashnikko – WEEDKILLER

WEEDKILLER, Ashnikko’s debut studio album released on August 25, 2023, through Parlophone and Warner Records, showcases her evolution from the 2021 mixtape Demidevil. The album features standout singles like ‘You Make Me Sick!’ and ‘Worms,’ building on her bold musical style. Conceptually, WEEDKILLER offers a rich narrative described in press materials as “a commentary on environmental disaster and the rapid evolution of technology” that tells “the story of a fae civilization occupied and destroyed by machines that feed on organic matter where the faerie protagonist seeks revenge by becoming part machine.”

Standout Songs: World Eater, You Make Me Sick!, Worms, Cheerleader, WEEDKILLER, Possession of a Weapon

The Armed – Perfect Saviors

Hailing from the vibrant musical city of Detroit, The Armed, an enigmatic American hardcore punk collective, have unleashed their much-anticipated fifth studio album, Perfect Saviors. In the wake of their 2021 sensation Ultrapop, this latest offering proudly showcases an eclectic ensemble of talents including the likes of Julien Baker, the former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, the creative force behind Illuminati Hotties, Sarah Tudzin, and the rhythm section from the groundbreaking band, Jane’s Addiction, Eric Avery, and Stephen Perkins. Boasting a collection of twelve deeply immersive tracks, the album may strike initially as a chaotic cacophony of noise. However, beneath its unyielding exterior lies an intricate landscape of sonic exploration. Brace yourself for a voyage that strays far from the familiar boundaries of their iconic hardcore essence, yet retains that irresistibly unique allure that they are known for.
