This week we’re highlighting new music from Hot Chip, Cass McCombs, and The Mountain Goats.
Hot Chip – Freakout/Release
English synthpop band, Hot Chip have returned with their eighth full-length album. Freakout/Release follows up 2019’s A Bath Full of Ecstasy with a fun and fresh outlook that is sure to garner attention. Two decades into their career, the band delivers 11 tracks of pure joy across 47 minutes. Hot Chip’s Alexis Taylor discusses the album, “Just to be able to get together and make some music was enough of an impetus to pour lots of enthusiasm into recording and writing. We had so much pent-up energy that came out in the recordings.”
Standout Songs: Down, Eleanor, Freakout/Release, Broken, Miss The Bliss
Cass McCombs – Heartmind
Cass McCombs delivers his latest in his ever-evolving career. Co-produced by the California native, Heartmind was also produced by Shahzad Ismaily, Buddy Ross, and Ariel Rechtshaid. McCombs divulges, “I made this album as a way to handle the loss of some close friends. Their memories guided me throughout and hopefully they live through the music. Strange to realize, it wasn’t them who were lost, it was me.”
Standout Songs: Karaoke, Unproud Warrior, A Blue, Blue Band, Belong To Heaven, Heartmind
The Mountain Goats – Bleed Out
The Mountain Goats have returned with their 20th album, Bleed Out. Created in the early days of the pandemic, the album fantasizes about escapism. 12 songs deep, the album was recorded at Sylvan Esso’s Betty Studios in North Carolina. “We hid out in the woods in Chapel Hill and made this album with nobody knowing about it,” Darnelle explained. “Proper secret-soldier style. It has been pretty hard keeping this under our hats, we are really proud of what we got here.”
Standout Songs: Training Montage, Mark on You, Make You Suffer, Hostages, Bleed Out
