3 New Albums Out This Week You Should Listen to Now: Ho99o9, Benny The Butcher, and Rex Orange County
This week we’re highlighting new music from Ho99o9, Benny The Butcher, and Rex Orange County.
Ho99o9 – Skin
Ho99o9 (pronounced Horror) is an American hip-hop/punk/industrial outfit from New Jersey, founded in 2012 by theOGM and Eaddy. Skin, their new album released on March 11 thrusts the duo back into the limelight. Listening to them for the first time will likely jolt you out of your seat. But once you get past the initial abrasiveness, Ho99o9’s brand of music is much more nuanced than you might expect. At their core, listening to Ho99o9 invokes a strong cathartic response. The New Jersey rap-punks are like a worm digging into your soul that can not be ignored. Ho99o9 does everything they can to bring about a primal hedonistic mood that will make you feel alive. This album is relentless and should not be ignored.
Standout Songs: NUGE SNIGHT, BATTERY NOT INCLUDED, DEVIL AT THE CROSSROADS, LIMITS (FEAT. JASIAH), DEAD OR ASLEEP?

Benny the Butcher – Tana Talk 4
Buffalo-born rapper Benny the Butcher has just released his final album independently through EMPIRE before moving to Def Jam. Tana Talk 4 is one of our 40 most anticipated albums of 2022 and it doesn’t disappoint. The album, entirely produced by The Alchemist and Daringer, sees the Butcher effortlessly rapping across the twelve tracks. J. Cole, Diddy, Westside Gunn, Conway The Machine, and Boldy James all feature on the star-studded project. The Butcher gives a little more detail on what to expect. “My content is gonna switch: I’m not in the streets anymore, I’m not doing shit like that,” he said. “My content is gonna be different. It’s just a bigger sound, a fuller sound. And I’m not even talking about the music, the production: I’m talking about me, what I’ma bring to the table.”
Standout Songs: Johnny P’s Caddy, Weekends In The Perry’s (feat. Boldy James), 10 More Commandments (feat. Diddy), Tyson vs. Ali (feat. Conway The Machine), Guerrero (feat. Westside Gunn)

Rex Orange County – WHO CARES?
WHO CARES? may not take chances stylistically, but what it lacks in breaking new ground it makes up for with a consistent sound and vibe. Rex Orange County, A.K.A. Alexander James O’Connor has found a formula that works. It’s a soothing formula built on confident, bedroom-pop sensibilities. Sonically, O’Connor uses orchestral elements (namely strings) throughout the project with attention and care. There are moments of pop perfection, like ‘KEEP IT UP’ and ‘OPEN A WINDOW’ (feat. Tyler, The Creator), but overall WHO CARES? lacks the cohesiveness that is present in an artist’s masterpiece.
Standout Songs: KEEP IT UP, AMAZING, 7AM, WHO CARES?
