The Technicolors strip things down on ‘First Class to Nowhere’

The Technicolors have unveiled their latest single, ‘First Class to Nowhere,’ a stripped-back collaboration featuring Madison Cunningham and a standout track from their upcoming album Heavy Pulp, due August 29 via SoundOn.
Marking a noticeable shift in tone from their previous releases, ‘First Class to Nowhere’ highlights the band’s more tender and introspective side. The duet between lead singer Brennan Smiley and GRAMMY-winner Madison Cunningham gently trades lyrics that feel both personal and universal. The song’s production is minimal, allowing the emotional weight of the vocals and songwriting to take center stage.
The Technicolors’ Brennan Smiley opened up by saying:
“For whatever reason I’ve noticed a pattern where I’ll attempt to write a song directly for someone close, or with that specific person in mind, and it almost always turns out that I’m actually writing it to myself just the same. That’s what this song ended up becoming; a sort of ‘get well soon’ card to myself and to that person and to anyone. While a lot of other songs on the album take a different approach — hiding behind masks or playing different characters as a way of revealing something else, it was important for this song to feel as naked and vulnerable as possible and to risk that level of honesty. I’d be lying to myself if I said that came easy.”
Produced by GRAMMY-nominated Robert Adam Stevenson (Queens of the Stone Age, The Kills), Heavy Pulp will be the band’s first full-length release since 2021’s Cinema Sublimina. It also features BRONCHO’s Nathan Price on drums. In addition to working on Heavy Pulp, Smiley will join BRONCHO on tour this summer as a guitarist.
‘First Class to Nowhere’ is out now.
