Pickle Darling, the moniker of Christchurch-based artist Lukas Mayo, has released a new single titled ‘Violence Voyager,’ offering a glimpse into their forthcoming album Battlebots, out September 5 on Father/Daughter Records.

‘Violence Voyager’ captures the whimsical yet emotionally textured world that Pickle Darling continues to cultivate. Opening with the line, “You woke up on the couch with the menu screen on,” the song is filled with quiet intimacy, blending a chiming, lo-fi instrumental with lyrical snapshots of connection, memory, and existential musing. The track’s soft sonic landscape belies its title, allowing its themes to unfold gently, even as they meditate on mechanical aggression and digital fatigue.

The accompanying video, directed by Christiane Shortal, builds on this contrast, transforming ‘Violence Voyager’ into a surreal visual journey. Featuring a PS1-inspired mascot character, the video plays like a low-poly ode to nature and transcendence.

Mayo notes:

“We took our little PS1 mascot and brought them to transcendence.”

‘Violence Voyager’ is the latest track shared from Battlebots, following previous singles ‘Massive Everything’ and ‘Human Bean Instruction Manual.’
