Exclusive: My Violence shares ‘Paper Bag Princess’ ahead of sophomore album Monday’s Child

Viennese chanteuse Silvia Ryder, formerly one half of the dreampop duo Sugarplum Fairies, has returned under her solo moniker My Violence with a new single, ‘Paper Bag Princess.’
‘Paper Bag Princess’ is a melancholic piano ballad that showcases Ryder’s evocative, whispered vocals against a cinematic backdrop. Drawing from her roots in Americana folk rock, shoegaze, and pop, My Violence expands into darker, more enchanting territory. The song is inspired by a banned 1980s children’s book that reverses the traditional princess-and-dragon narrative, reflecting Ryder’s fascination with subverting expectations and creating atmospheric, story-driven music.
Ryder shares:
“[‘Paper Bag Princess’ is] based on a 1980s banned children’s book that reverses the princess-and-dragon stereotype.”
‘Paper Bag Princess’ is available August 27 via Starfish Records, with Monday’s Child arriving in full on October 31.
