Alexei Shishkin drops new single ‘Tiki Taka (2006)’ ahead of September album Good Times
Lo-fi indie chameleon Alexei Shishkin returns with ‘Tiki Taka (2006)’, the second single from his upcoming full-length album Good Times, due out September 5th via Rue Defense.
‘Tiki Taka (2006)’ is a soccer-inspired track, pulled together during a studio session where producer Bradford Krieger cued up highlights from Barcelona FC. Shishkin improvised lyrics in real time, drawing from the visuals to craft metaphors around the team’s legendary passing style. The result is a hypnotic, tongue-in-cheek reflection on dominance, frustration, and admiration.
“This song was inspired by FC Barcelona, but not by my own choosing. For this one (and most of the tunes on this album, tbh), Brad and I wrote all the music first and then filled in the gaps with mostly improvised lyrics. I went into the vocal booth, and Brad put on some random soccer highlights for me to watch while singing. It just so happened that he pulled up some supercut of Barca moments, so I just started making up soccer things. Ironically, it pains me because I normally cheer against Barcelona, but I would be a fool to deny their greatness.”
Crafted during an intensive four-day session at Big Nice Studio in Rhode Island, Good Times is Shishkin’s eleventh full-length project and follows a prolific 2024 that included three albums and his debut feature documentary. Known for blending slacker rock, jazz, and Americana with experimental techniques, the album is a self-described “diary” and a surrealist escape from reality.
‘Tiki Taka (2006)’ is out now. Good Times is scheduled for release on September 5th via Rue Defense.
