Your Grandparents stretch time and sound on new album The Dial

Los Angeles trio Your Grandparents released their long-awaited full-length The Dial out now, via drink sum wtr.
Produced by: Cole Thompson
Comprised of producer Cole Thompson and vocalists DaCosta and Jean Carter, the album marks a major step forward for the group as they explore the nature of time through a kaleidoscopic blend of hip-hop, funk, soul, and dance-punk. With more than a decade of collaboration behind them, the trio brings focused intentionality to The Dial, resulting in a vibrant, deeply considered body of work that glides between genre and mood. Drawing from sessions in Joshua Tree and two years of meticulous crafting, the album is both expansive and intimate, filled with rich grooves and introspective lyricism.
Tracks like ‘Be Cool’ channel house and G-funk energy, while ‘Down’ evokes Dilla-style swing, and ‘BAD NEWS’ pulses with ESG-inspired edge. Yet, each moment feels cohesive, unified by Thompson’s shape-shifting production and the duo’s dynamic vocal interplay. The title track opens the record with clarity and warmth, with Carter and DaCosta singing, “Now when my sun sets, and I look at the dial/ I wanna surely say I wasted no time,” setting the thematic tone for the journey ahead.
DaCosta says:
“We wanted to relay that message that things will work out when they’re supposed to. The best way to get the most out of hard situations is to keep your head down and work with integrity.”
Out now, The Dial is a thoughtful and emotionally resonant album that embraces life’s contradictions — its heartaches and highs, its fleeting moments and cyclical truths.
