Wishy releases their new EP, Planet Popstar (out now on Winspear), marking another step forward for one of indie rock’s most celebrated new voices.

Produced by: Ben Lumsdaine

Following the critical success of their 2024 debut LP Triple Seven, Planet Popstar offers a more polished, kaleidoscopic glimpse into Wishy’s ever-evolving sound. The EP builds on themes of love, life, self-discovery, and fun while leaning into high-production aesthetics. Across its tracks, Wishy balances nostalgia with innovation, incorporating elements of indie pop, alt-rock, and early-aughts guitar tones. From the hypnotizing opener ‘Fly’ to the buoyant title track ‘Planet Popstar,’ the EP showcases Wishy’s knack for crafting addictive melodies wrapped in dreamy textures. Songs like ‘Over and Over’ blend intricate guitar work with Kevin Krauter’s distinct vocals. At the same time, the EP reflects the band’s roots of bedroom demos expanded into widescreen, Los Angeles-studio polish.

Singer/guitarist Kevin Krauter says:

“We really wanted to lean into the high-production style and had a lot of fun in the studio using these songs as an opportunity to explore a more polished, adult-contemporary feel.”

With Planet Popstar, Wishy delivers a vibrant, shimmering antidote to the anxieties of modern life, proving once again that their creative momentum is only just beginning.
