Brazilian-American artist Winter and Philly electro-lo-fi duo Hooky have joined forces for Water Season, a collaborative EP out now via Julia’s War Recordings. The project blends Winter’s ethereal dreamscapes with Hooky’s glitchy, shoegaze-inspired textures, resulting in a release that feels like the perfect meeting of minds.

Produced by: Samira Winter and Scott Turner

The origins of Water Season trace back to an online connection, where Winter and Hooky first bonded over their mutual admiration for each other’s work. Their collaboration officially took shape in the summer of 2024 when Winter, having relocated from Los Angeles to New York, traveled to Philadelphia to meet Scott Turner and Sam Silbert. What started as a casual jam session turned into a full-fledged creative partnership, culminating in an EP that reflects both artists’ strengths.

Lead single ‘horseshoe’ sets the tone with wiry guitar melodies, drum machine pulses, and Winter’s syrupy vocals. The track captures the feeling of discovering new friendships and exploring an unfamiliar city—an energy that extends into the entire EP. Throughout Water Season, lo-fi production techniques and electronic flourishes blend seamlessly with dreamy indie rock, evoking the bittersweet sensation of summer fading into fall.

Reflecting on the experience, Winter shares:

“I took the train to Philly and for a couple of days, we just jammed at Scott’s place for hours. It was this cool feeling of making new friends, exploring a city, and also making art together for the first time. It strangely felt like I had known them forever, even though it was the first time we were hanging out.”

With Water Season, Winter and Hooky step outside their comfort zones, creating a sonic snapshot of a fleeting moment. The EP builds on the foundations laid by Winter’s …and she’s still listening and Hooky’s Mirage, further solidifying both artists’ reputations for pushing the boundaries of shoegaze and indie electronica.

Standout Songs: ‘horseshoe,’ and ‘in your pocket.’

Release Date: February 14
