SOAPBOX double down with ferocious new EP LOCK IN

Glasgow’s politically-charged punk outfit SOAPBOX are back with LOCK IN, a four-track assault on the senses.
Produced by: SOAPBOX
Following 2023’s HAWD THAT, the new EP sees SOAPBOX expand on their blend of noisy intensity and anti-authoritarian grit. The band — Tom Rowan (vocals), Angus Husbands (guitar), Aidan Bowskill (bass), and Jenna Nimmo (drums) — channel influences like The Damned, Amyl and the Sniffers, and Viagra Boys into something distinctly their own: volatile, witty, and unflinchingly political.
The EP features the explosive single ‘Do As Ur Told,’ a track that confronts the abuse of power in the music industry. It’s driven by snarling guitars and bristling frustration, emblematic of SOAPBOX’s ethos. Having already graced Spotify’s The Punk List and landed on New Music Friday and Hot New Bands playlists, the band continues to build momentum with their outspoken presence and riotous live shows.
‘Do As Ur Told’ is a song about abuse of power, explains vocalist Tom Rowan:
“Its lyrics are specific to a bad experience we had in the music industry where we felt we were being taken for a ride, but we feel it’s more broadly about being strong-armed into situations which are non-beneficial. The frustration we feel as musicians struggling to scratch out a living, and being squeezed on every penny we do make by other parties, translates to situations people find themselves in every day whether that’s off of a colleague, boss, landlord or someone else in a position of power over them.”
SOAPBOX have built a reputation not only for their blistering sound but also for their uncompromising stance. From provocative posters denouncing Nazis and praising BDSM — later removed by Glasgow City Council — to their vocal support of Jeremy Corbyn, controversy has been no stranger to the band. But they remain unfazed, doubling down on their mission to be loud, proud, and impossible to ignore.
With LOCK IN, SOAPBOX continue to make noise — both musically and politically — and they’re not turning down the volume anytime soon.
Standout Songs: ‘Good Guys,’ ‘Do As Ur Told,’ and ‘The Granton Star Cause.’
