Austin-based bedroom pop artist Skateland unveils his latest EP, Joyce Howell, How Are You?, a heartfelt dive into life’s bittersweet complexities through a blend of indie rock and pop.

Produced by: Dorian Williams II

On Joyce Howell, How Are You?, Skateland—aka Dorian Williams II—presents five distinct yet interconnected tracks, each a vignette that captures the wide-ranging emotional terrain of the past year. Rooted in his experiences and introspection, the songs explore universal themes like love, jealousy, nostalgia, and growth. Skateland’s approach is reminiscent of a New Yorker column, sharing personal stories with the listener that transcend his own life to reach something relatable for all. He shares:

“This is my version of a New Yorker column where I touch on the thoughts and experiences I’ve had this past year, and take some time to reflect on what they all mean in the grand scheme of both my life and life in general.”

As a multi-instrumentalist and producer, Williams melds melancholy lyricism and nostalgic instrumentation into a sound that feels timeless and fresh. This EP is particularly impactful as it follows his recent successes, from opening for Foster the People to a sold-out crowd, to multiple SXSW showcases.

Joyce Howell, How Are You? is an honest, relatable collection that showcases Skateland’s ability to turn deeply personal moments into universally resonant music.
