It’s been a minute since we’ve heard a full-length album from Samantha Crain — five years, to be exact. But with Gumshoe, out May 2 on Real Kind Records, the Choctaw singer-songwriter more than makes up for lost time, delivering a textured, emotionally rich folk-rock record that feels intimate and expansive.

Produced by: Samantha Crain, Taylor Johnson, and Brine Webb

Gumshoe captures Crain at a major turning point. Long known for her independence and self-reliance, she spent the past few years deepening her ties to the world around her—supporting her partner through addiction recovery, working at a wildcare rescue and a liquor store in Oklahoma, and learning firsthand how love and community can reshape a life. That hard-earned growth pulses through every song here.

The album leans into folk and indie rock, but it’s the human details that really shine. ‘Dart,’ the latest single, floats in on delicate guitar and all the messy, hopeful feelings that come with falling for someone new. Earlier tracks like ‘Dragonfly’ and ‘Ridin’ Out The Storm’ already hinted at the layered, lived-in sound Gumshoe is built around—songs that don’t just tell stories, but invite you inside them.

Crain’s spent the last few years lending her talents to film and TV, including the score for Fancy Dance starring Lily Gladstone. But Gumshoe is a powerful reminder: her voice, her songs, her heart—they all belong at center stage.

Standout Songs: ‘Nepture Baby,’ ‘Ridin’ Out The Storm,’ ‘Gumshoe,’ and ‘Melatonin.’
