Australian four-piece Rum Jungle releases their debut album, Recency Bias.

Produced by: Simon Dobson

The title Recency Bias stems from a realization familiar to many artists—the tendency to favor the newest creations over older ones. For Rum Jungle, this project has marked a turning point where they embraced both their past and present work, crafting an album they could stand behind wholeheartedly. The result is a collection of songs that span their diverse influences, from mid-2000s indie guitars and slow ballads to bursts of punk energy, hyper-pop production, and even nods to 1960s sounds. Some tracks had been simmering for years, while others came together just hours before hitting the studio.

Recorded at Lakehouse Audio with producer Simon, the album took shape during weeks of studio experimentation, punctuated by weekends on the road. The relaxed, homey atmosphere—complete with Simon’s family, chickens, and a cat named Pinky—allowed the band to refine their sound without any pressure. This organic process helped shape Recency Bias into a dynamic and deeply personal record.

As lead vocalist Benny puts it:

“What’s special to us is that we’ve come out the other end with something we each love and are extremely proud of.”

With Recency Bias, Rum Jungle delivers a record that captures the essence of four musicians coming together to capture a moment they can be truly proud of.

Standout Songs: ‘Hi Hello,’ ‘Weather’s Better,’ ‘Always On Your Good Side,’ and ‘Notice.’
