New Jersey’s High. make an indelible first impression with their debut EP Come Back Down, now available via Kanine Records.

Produced by: Matthew Molnar

The creative partnership between Christian Castan (vocals/guitar) and Bridget Bakie (bass/vocals) forms the heart of High. The pair, who initially crossed paths on the DIY and college circuit, sought to create a project to channel their collective vision and allow for extensive touring. Alongside Jack Miller (drums) and Danny Zavala (guitar), the band quickly gained momentum, debuting at Saint Vitus in NYC and touring the tristate DIY scene.

Come Back Down reflects the band’s relentless drive, beginning with sessions in June 2023 at Greenpoint’s studio of Patrick Wimberly (Chairlift). With producer Matthew Molnar and engineer Sam Darwish, the band honed their sound, blending churning guitars, emotive bass lines, and introspective lyricism. Additional sessions at Shane Furst’s Cloud Factory Studios and Jeff Ziegler’s Uniform Recording in Philadelphia—whose work on Nothing’s Guilty of Everything was a significant influence—solidified the EP’s lush and layered production.

The record’s eight tracks evoke the spirit of house shows and late-night introspection. From the stirring opener ‘In A Hole’ to the atmospheric closer ‘Bomber,’ Come Back Down immerses listeners in High.’s sonic world. The band’s time supporting acts like DIIV and A Place To Bury Strangers, as well as a Midwest run with Smut, further sharpened their ability to channel live energy into recorded form.

High.’s debut EP is a testament to their dedication to their craft and its roots in the New Jersey DIY scene. With Come Back Down, the band has established itself as a shoegaze force poised to resonate far beyond Boonton.

Standout Songs: ‘In A Hole,’ ‘Catcher,’ ‘Dead,’ and ‘Lifetimes.’
