Frances Whitney’s Old Hobbies explores the vulnerabilities of early adulthood

Frances Whitney’s debut EP, Old Hobbies, is a deeply personal and unfiltered exploration of self-discovery, out now via 604 Records.
Produced by: 254bodi and Liam Clarke
Crafted across intimate settings from Toronto and Nashville to Whitney’s L.A. bedroom, Old Hobbies is an eight-track collection that balances raw acoustic foundations with layered strings, synths, and occasional beats. Whitney’s intricate songwriting shines through in stories of personal growth, mid-twenties uncertainty, and letting go of harmful patterns.
The opener, ‘Biggest Fan,’ sets the tone with its straightforward narrative about seeking validation in a partner, a theme woven throughout the EP. Standout single ‘Easy Street’ channels a nostalgic ‘70s Laurel Canyon vibe, examining a stagnant relationship romanticized beyond reality. Meanwhile, the ethereal ‘You Left Me For Jesus’ captures the heartbreak of feeling like an afterthought in someone else’s life. Each song underscores Whitney’s ability to blend vulnerability with lush, melodic arrangements.
Reflecting on the project, Whitney shares:
“I started writing songs at six years old, shortly before I learned how to play the guitar… I continued to write songs throughout my life – especially as a therapeutic tool – and mostly, privately. It wasn’t until the last few years that I began sharing my music with the world.
Old Hobbies is a striking debut showcasing Frances Whitney’s skill for combining introspection with timeless melodies. The EP invites listeners to find pieces of themselves in her journey, affirming her place as a compelling new voice in indie-pop.
Standout Songs: ‘Easy Street,’ ‘You Left Me For Jesus,’ and ‘Holding On.’
