Fib shatters genre conventions on debut album Heavy Lifting

Philadelphia-based band Fib delivers a fearless, unpredictable first full-length with Heavy Lifting, out April 25, 2025, via Julia’s War Recordings.
Produced by: Fib
Formed in Portland and now rooted in Philly’s fertile underground, Fib has spent the last few years earning a reputation for tight live sets and chaotic finales. Their new record, Heavy Lifting captures the wild energy of their performances while expanding their sonic reach. No longer confined by the scrappy lofi production of their 2021 self-titled tape, the album reveals a more expansive, vibrant version of the band.
Across nine tracks, Fib explores the outer edges of arty pop, punk, and progressive rock, stitching together intricate guitar tangles, polyrhythms, and warped hooks. Songs like ‘Mutuals’ and ‘Say’ bounce with frenzied energy and calculated unpredictability, while ‘Dotted Line’ and ‘PS’ slow the pace just enough for the band’s songwriting to shine. Every track feels distinct, yet they fit together as one immersive, surreal auditory experience.
Douglas Dulgarian said the following about Fib via Instagram:
“Fib is free jazz in an era where everything else is getting more cookie cutter and snapped to the grid. And that’s what I love most about them. I never know what to expect. It’s completely unique and individual, and although you can certainly hear the influences, I am always completely knocked off-center when I hear or see what they’re creating.”
With Heavy Lifting, Fib embraces a bigger, bolder sound and carves out a singular place in the modern experimental rock landscape—ecstatic, disorienting, and undeniably their own.
