The Manchester-based five-piece Delights have stepped boldly into the indie spotlight with their debut album, If Heaven Looks A Little Like This. Release via Modern Sky, the album is a vibrant showcase of the band’s eclectic influences and infectious energy.

Produced by: Michael Smith

The journey of If Heaven Looks A Little Like This began in a rented house in France, where the band devoted 10 intensive days to laying the album’s foundation. The immersive, round-the-clock recording sessions that followed allowed the band to craft a record that mirrors the dynamic energy of their live performances. Themes of camaraderie and the joy of making music run throughout the album, reflecting the band’s shared experiences and the reality of their creative journey.

Produced by Michael Smith (known for his work with Wolf Alice) at Oxford’s Woodworm Studios, the record spans an impressive array of styles, seamlessly blending psychedelia, funk, soul, and disco with stadium-sized indie pop. From Metronomy to Daft Punk, the diverse inspirations underpinning the album create a kaleidoscopic listening experience.

Maxwell says:

“I was quite conscious that, if we want it to stand our own test of time, I want to know where I was and where we were as a collective. So lyrically, it’s trying to explain that story of us doing this and having fun, but where we are right now – skint, working hard, trying to be in a band and do cool things that playing will allow us to do.”

The album’s standout tracks capture the quintet’s range and ambition: the soaring indie rock of ‘And It Goes,’ the stomping indie-dance of ‘Two Times Over,’ and the velvety funk of ‘Hotel Bar’ demonstrate their versatility and knack for crafting memorable moments. With If Heaven Looks A Little Like This, Delights have crafted a record that’s as expansive as their ambition and as warm as their collective spirit.
