Cotoba finds strength in sorrow on new EP Sin Swims

South Korean band Cotoba returns with Sin Swims, a five-track post-rock odyssey that floats between vulnerability and resolve, weaving introspective soundscapes with emotional precision.
Produced by: Cotoba
Recorded in Bangkok and mixed and mastered at Studio Log in Seoul, Sin Swims continues Cotoba’s tradition of deeply expressive music that balances technical math rock structures with raw emotional weight. Known for their blend of clean guitars, immersive bass lines, syncopated rhythms, and DyoN Joo’s affecting vocals, the trio—DyoN Joo, Dafne, and Hyerim—creates a sound that feels both intricately constructed and entirely organic.
Opening track ‘Syhi’ sets the tone with its charismatic energy and a propulsive pace. It’s followed by ‘Ice Sea,’ which oscillates between moments of calm and eruption, evoking a melancholic undercurrent. ‘今t合 (Contigo)’ is one of the most sonically adventurous on the album, melding English, Spanish, and Japanese lyrics into a multilingual meditation on solitude. ‘Away Home,’ inspired by the children’s book Son of the Polar Bear, breathes with sorrow and immediacy, while closer ‘Sin’ stands out for its playful experimentation, ending the record with a soaring guitar solo that encapsulates Cotoba’s unique balance of vulnerability and power.
Cotoba’s Sin Swims is an exploration of growth through pain—how even sin, when carried and understood, can become the current that moves us forward. With this release, the band doesn’t just expand their sonic language; they invite listeners to swim alongside them in search of meaning, empathy, and release.
