Cosmopaark expands shoegaze horizons on new EP Backyard
Produced by: Johannes Buff and Pierre Loustaunau
French shoegaze trio Cosmopaark returns on October 18th with their highly anticipated EP Backyard, marking a new chapter in the band’s sonic evolution. Released through Howlin’ Banana Records and Stellar Frequencies, Backyard delivers five tracks that push the boundaries of the band’s established sound while staying rooted in the lush, dreamy textures of shoegaze.
Following the success of their debut album and I can’t breathe enough (2023), Cosmopaark dives deeper into experimentation with Backyard, bringing a modern twist to their already captivating style. The EP, recorded at Shorebreak Studio with renowned producers Johannes Buff and Pierre Loustaunau, introduces subtle electronic elements, shared vocals, and innovative production techniques that add new layers to their signature wall of sound. While their iconic glide guitar walls remain intact, the band uses this release to explore new sonic landscapes with keyboards, vocal effects, and fresh pedal sounds.
The band shared, highlighting their excitement about working in a professional studio environment for the first time:
“We were able to push the textures further by using Pierre’s amazing synthesizers and running our drum machines through various effect modules. We experimented with different vocal textures, notably adding touches of autotune here and there. Being able to do all this with top-notch professional recording was a first for us.”
Cosmopaark’s Backyard continues its trajectory of crafting introspective yet powerful music, combining melancholic soundscapes with uplifting energy. The EP signals a significant step forward in their journey, blending the best of their shoegaze roots with a more contemporary indie sound, setting the stage for their future projects.
Standout Songs: ‘Starve,’ ‘Olive Tree,’ and ‘Hole.’
